Steve Jackson is the Frederick James Quick Professor of Biology at Cambridge University, and a Senior Group Leader in the Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon institute of Cancer and Developmental Biology. He is also an Associate Faculty member of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Steve first studied at Leeds University, then did his PhD research at Edinburgh University.
Steve worked with Robert Tijan at UC Berkeley, CA, USA before returning to the UK in 1991 to continue research on the regulation of transcription at the Wellcome-CRC Instute. For the past 15 years, the primary focus of his research has been DNA repair and DNA-damage signalling. In 1997 Steve founded KuDOS Pharmaceuticals Ltd – a biotechnology venture designed to transfer DNA repair research into medical applications – and he launched MISSION Therapeutics Ltd in 2011. Steve has received numerous prizes throughout his career, from the Eppendorf European Young Investigator of the Year in 1995 to the Royal Society Buchanan Medal in 2011. He is an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (1997), the Academy of Medical Sciences (2001) and the Fellowship of the Royal Society (2008).
