A 3-year Lab Manager/ Research assistant position is available at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) to work in the Host-Microbe Co-metabolism group headed by Dr Filipe Cabreiro. The LMS is an Institute funded by the MRC and part of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College. We are located on the Hammersmith Hospital Campus in West London (W12). The institute has first-class facilities including high-throughput sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics and provides investigators from clinical and basic science backgrounds with the opportunity to pursue innovative, multidisciplinary research within the excellence of Imperial College. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with strong lab experience to support the running of the group, and who will also actively be involved in ongoing research projects.

The successful candidate must have the following essential attributes:

– MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant biological discipline

– laboratory experience in biochemistry and molecular biology (e.g. western blotting, PCR, qRT-PCR, RNA extraction, microscopy)

– prior experience working with C. elegans as a model system OR microbiology techniques (e.g transduction, screening, transposon, mutagenesis)

– lab management experience

– excellent organisational, communication and research skills

– strong work ethic, attention to detail, and meticulous record keeping

– positive attitude to learning and trouble-shooting new methods

The following qualities are desirable:

– interest in metabolism and ageing

– background in microbiota research
