About the role

The Chain Florey Predoctoral Fellowship Scheme presents clinical trainees with a unique opportunity to spend 12 months 100% FTE (or 24 months 50% FTE) in fields that range from biomedical discovery science to experimental medicine and translational clinical research at two world-renowned academic institutions, Imperial College and the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS). The Chain Florey Fellowship provides an ideal foundation for those wishing to pursue a career in clinical academia and offer a pathway to subsequent funding opportunities.

 

What you would be doing

You will plan and conduct research, helping you refine your research interests and identify which area best aligns with your clinical background and long-term academic goals. In parallel, you will be developing research collaborations within the College, the LMS and the wider community. You will have the opportunity to develop a competitive application for submission to externally funded Clinical Research Training Fellowship schemes. You will be focusing on your research and will only undertake clinical activity if required by your specialty (usually limited to 0.2 FTE) or your research project.

 

What we are looking for

You will need to demonstrate an appropriate skill base and motivation to pursue scientific research, with the desire to progress on to a PhD afterward. With your application, please submit your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter outlining your motivation for applying and the LMS research groups you would be interested in exploring to develop a PhD project.

  • Practising medic in training in the UK
  • A medical degree
  • Completed Foundation Year Training by the start date of the position
  • Experience of conducting scientific research
