About the role

We are seeking an experienced Single-Molecule Biophysical Scientist, who will be responsible for developing a new workflow enabling the investigation of the structure and biomechanical properties of mitotic chromosomes and their relationship to gene-function and epigenetic memory.

The post holder will join an internationally-leading a team of scientists in the Single-Molecule Biophysics Group using world-class single molecule facilities and will work closely with collaborating research groups and industry partners. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for maintaining and developing cutting-edge techniques and approaches required to carry out mitotic chromosome purification, mechanical manipulation, imaging and analysis, obtaining high-quality data and supporting and training other lab members.

About You

You will need a PhD (or equivalent experience) and be able to demonstrate extensive and direct practical experience in both optical tweezers and single-molecule fluorescence, with a strong track record of publications and presentations at meetings. You will have proven ability in biopolymer modelling, developing methodology, and applying the techniques to cutting edge biological problems. Extensive experience in optical tweezers and single-molecule microscopy including significant practical modelling of biopolymer and programming are essential, while experience using Lumicks’ C-traps and maintain mammalian cell culture are desirable.

*Additional allowances comprise a £1,000 lump sum Settlement Allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two and £1,800 in the third year.
