About the role

The Cellular Stress Group focuses on the role of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the regulation of metabolism, with an interest in the therapeutic potential of AMPK activation in treating metabolic diseases. We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our group. The successful candidate will work on a project collaborating with AstraZeneca to investigate the role of AMPK activation in skeletal muscle cells. We are particularly interested in defining the role of AMPK complexes containing the muscle-specific g3 isoform.

About You

You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in biochemistry or a related field. You will have a strong background in biochemical, cellular and/or molecular biology techniques. Extensive cell culture expertise together with protein biochemical techniques (Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, enzyme assays) are essential. Previous experience working on protein kinase signalling and/or skeletal muscle metabolism would be an advantage. You should be highly motivated, committed and have clear career goals.

*Additional allowances comprise a £1,000 lump sum Settlement Allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two, terms and conditions apply.
