Outreach and Engagement (GECo)
One of the most important parts of the scientific and medical process happens after the experiments in the lab and the calculations have taken place. Medical research needs to be disseminated and communicated.
Our scientists communicate our discoveries to the scientific community by publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals. Our Communications team then further disseminate the work by liaising with journalists, writing news articles, and sharing on our social media accounts.
Beyond this, we have a broad creative portfolio of activities and engagement events which have successfully enabled us to connect wider publics and local communities to research. If you have an engagement query or would like our help in connecting people to science, please get in touch.
Our engagement strategy
We root our engagement and communications in an evidence-based approach, and also disseminate our own learnings in engagement through conferences, journal articles and engagement with the science-communications and patient and public engagement industries.
Partnerships
Although we engage directly with local schools and communities, we want our activities to be as impactful as they can possible can be, so we also partner with other organisations to increase our reach, widen participation, and maximise impact. We work with the MRC Black in Biomedical Science programme, the University of West London, Spark charity, My Yard and SMASHfestUK among others. If you would be interested in partnering with us to deliver engagement and involvement activities, please get in touch.
