About me:
I am a biochemist and endocrine scientist, and I investigate how metabolism defines the biological actions of steroid hormones. This work has important implications for our understanding of the biology underpinning steroid-driven diseases, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. I completed my PhD at the Saarland University (Germany) and postdoctoral training at the University of Birmingham (UK) and Cleveland Clinic (USA). I was a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Miami (USA) before I joined the LMS in 2025.
The Arlt lab, which focusses on the role of steroid metabolism and action in human disease, moved to the LMS in 2023. Our work explores tissue-specific regulation of steroid action with a focus on the role of androgens in metabolic dysfunction. We are very interested in mechanisms that explain sex differences in the impact of androgens on metabolism.
