About me:
I am a clinician scientist specialising in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus. I was awarded my PhD in 2026 by RCSI which I undertook as part of the Irish Clinical Academic Training (ICAT) programme. My research focuses on the clinical implications of alterations in steroid metabolism in human disease, specifically focusing on steroidogenic enzyme activity. My current research uses complementary approaches including population-based studies, in vitro experimentation, and in vivo metabolic phenotyping to further understand adrenal androgen biosynthesis.
The Arlt lab, which focusses on the role of steroid metabolism and action in human disease, moved to the LMS in 2023. Our work explores tissue-specific regulation of steroid action with a focus on the role of androgens in metabolic dysfunction. We are very interested in mechanisms that explain sex differences in the impact of androgens on metabolism.
