On 15 March our Director, Professor Dame Amanda Fisher, announced her intention to step down from her role as Director of the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS).

Mandy has been Director of the MRC LMS since 2008. During her tenure as Director, she created the Chain-Florey clinical research scheme, led the current building development, steered the Institute through the creation of UKRI, encouraged involvement in the White City Innovation District and pioneered a creative public engagement programme including Suffrage Science, Fabrics of Life and Heroes of Health. She will continue to lead her core MRC programme and in her role as Head of the Institute of Clinical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London.

In a message to all LMS staff and students Fiona Watt, Executive Chair of Medical Research Council thanked Mandy for her remarkable leadership of LMS and her major contributions to the work of MRC more broadly.

The Institute will be celebrating Mandy’s achievements as Director later in the year.

The interim leadership team will comprise senior Programme Leaders Petra Hajkova, Stuart Cook, Irene Miguel-Aliaga and the LMS Head of Operations, Carole Swan. Irene will be the primary point of contact with MRC Head Office and Imperial College London.
