On 2nd July 2021, two years after the LMS received planning permission for its new building, a traditional topping out ceremony was held to mark a critical milestone.
‘Topping out’ refers to the completion of the skeleton of the building. At the ceremony, a final section of concrete was poured on the roof and a Scandinavian-style spruce tree was planted.
The ceremony brought together many of the key stakeholders involved in the building’s creation, including Petra Hajkova (Head of LMS Senior Management Team), Jonathan Weber (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College), Fiona Watt (MRC Executive Chair), Susan Simon (MRC Director of Capital & Estates), and Amanda Fisher (Head of the Institute of Clinical Sciences).
The event was live streamed and you can watch the recording below.
The new building will offer state-of-the art research facilities in a bespoke environment designed to maximise collaboration. Built on the former MRC cyclotron site, the building brings LMS and Imperial College staff together at the Hammersmith Hospital and White City Campus in West London.
Updates about the LMS building development will be posted to the LMS Building page throughout the development: https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/new-building/
