New home for the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences

 9 July 2019   Institute News

The development of the new MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences building project reached a major milestone on 2nd July when they received planning permission from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The new building will create approximately 12,000 meters squared of advanced research facilities in an environment which will promote collaboration between all building users. Built on the former cyclotron site, the new building will bring LMS researchers together, who are currently spread across 5 buildings at the Hammersmith Hospital campus in West London.

In addition to the state-of-the-art research facilities and office space, there will be a café and 120-person seminar room, breakout spaces and east facing terrace on the seventh floor of the building.

The enabling works will be undertaken through the summer, with construction of the building expected to begin in October once planning conditions have been met.

The project team have been engaging with local stakeholders throughout the project including through regular stakeholder board meetings, site stakeholder forums and creative and community engagement projects.

Updates about the LMS building development will be posted to the LMS Building page throughout the development: https://lms.mrc.ac.uk/new-building/
