We are proud to share the news that MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) Group Head, Professor Oliver Howes has been recognised as one of the world’s most influential researchers, as recorded by the Clarivate™ 2021 list.

Commenting on this accolade, Professor Howes said: “This is wonderful news, especially now the nights are drawing! It is also a testament to the hard work and talent of the group members who I work and collaborate with, and great to know our work is having an influence.”

Each year, Clarivate™ identifies the researchers who have produced multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science™.

In 2021, fewer than 6,700, which is approximately 0.1% of the world’s researchers, made the Clarivate™ list.

Professor Howes psychiatric imaging group at the LMS uses innovative imaging techniques, including PET and MRI to unpick the molecular mechanisms underlying mental illness. Their aim is to identify new targets for drug development.
